Art, for me is a visual story, it’s personal, it’s compelling, and it’s something that we all want to share. Growing up as a child in Mexico City, I remember my mom taking me to see Frida Kahlo’s home. By then it was converted into a museum. I was so mesmerized by the colors of her walls, her furniture and her art, the intensity of it, her strength! I didn’t try to make sense of it, my mom couldn’t explain it to me. Art is a force that you feel in the center of your heart, that’s what she told me.
Years later I moved to New York City to attend college to study jewelry design and art. I used to spend my weekends gallery-hopping in Soho.In those days Soho was the center of the art world. During one of those outings, I crossed paths with the Andy Warhol. He was with a friend reviewing the paintings on display. It was a quiet day at the gallery and it was only the three of us in the room. I wanted to talk to him, but I didn't know what to say. I had an old camera with me, and I was going to ask him, nonchalantly, if he could take my picture, as if like I didn’t know who he was! I thought then that if he would agree to take my photo, then I would have an Andy Warhol original!
Alas, I didn't have the nerve to approach him, but I have the memories.
My passion for photography began as such wanderings in the lively the streets of Manhattan- a city that is so visually stimulating, that it begs to be photographed. Later on I moved north of the city, to the Hudson Valley, where nature is everywhere, I was hypnotized by its bucolic beauty. I began photographing my surroundings, creating art, incorporating new and old techniques such as encaustic, oil, collage and acrylics. I found what makes my heart sing!
And now I just began a new chapter in my life in the magical city of Merida in Mexico, waiting to discover new paths.
I have created this space for you, to share my art, and the art of other talented artists that I have met along my journey.
“... and then I have nature and art and poetry, and that is not enough, what is enough? Vincent Van Gogh
